# Simplifying the Transportation Process

To transport BTS turntables, a contractor rents a “vessel of opportunity” at the job location, which simply has to have adequate space on the deck for a turntable. The turntable itself is disassembled and removed from the vessel at the last job site and shipped by truck or container to the next job location, where it will be installed on the waiting vessel.

### PIE SECTIONS

 Portable turntables arrive at a job site disassembled. The turntable is manufactured in pie sections that are bolted together on the vessel or barge. The wheel assemblies are shimmed to level the surface where the track will ride, ensuring maximum contact. The number and size of the supporting wheels is determined by the diameter and load capacity of the turntable. The design of the wheel base allows the load to be equally distributed to the deck beams of the vessel.

### OPERATOR CONTROLS

 A quick disconnect on the tethered control pendent allows the system to be operated locally for system check out and startup or remotely from the control room during laying operations.

### CAPACITIES

 Marine cable laying turntables are available with capacities in excess of 3,000 tons.

### DRIVE SYSTEMS

 A positive engagement drive system uses a direct-driven cog wheel which engages a ring gear that is mounted on the outer diameter of the tables sections. Standard drives utilize a high torque hydraulic motor. Electric drive designs are available.
